My first upcycling project

My first upcycling/refashioning project: a large men’s shirt converted to a cute cropped one. 🥰

This is the #flughafentop ✈️ by @flux.bene, a sewing pattern specifically for upcycling old shirts into fun new ones. I bought the pattern as soon as it was released, and saved some colorful shirts from the donation bin a few months ago. My first but definitely not my last, I love this thing!

The pattern guides you with chopping off the long sleeves, shortening the hem, and using the remnants with a contrast fabric to make cute patchwork cuffs and pockets. There are a few cuff and pocket variations to choose from, I chose to use cuffs v1, v2 and v3, and pockets v2 and v3. The light blue chambray is from my beloved culottes I made that don’t fit me anymore, and the yellow polkadot was a pocket lining.

I didn’t realize how much I’d enjoy transforming a preloved garment, and this project has thrown me down a rabbit hole of upcycling videos on YouTube hahaha.
