About this website
duckgoesoink.com is my personal blog, where I document the things I make and mend.
I care very much about your privacy and want everyone to understand what I do with their personal data – that’s why I wrote this privacy policy in easy-to-understand language.
What data I collect
When you visit my website, I collect some basic information for audience measurement:
- Your IP address
- Which pages you visit and how long you stay
- What browser and device you’re using
- How you found my blog
Why I collect it
I collect information based on legitimate interests, which means I only gather what’s needed to run and improve this website.
In practical terms, this data helps me understand:
- How people use my blog
- What content resonates the most
- Where I might have bugs or broken stuff
- How I can make this site better for you and everyone else
How I track visits
I use Matomo to analyse traffic to my blog. It’s an open-source, privacy-focused platform that is approved by the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL).
I have it set up in the most GDPR-compliant way – to protect your data, and make sure that you can never be personally identified:
- your IP address is anonymised
- I don’t record any personal data
- I don’t track your behaviour across other websites
- I only use first-party cookies
- I keep all data within the EU (Amsterdam)
- I never share your information, or sell it to anyone else!
Cookies
This blog uses some first-party cookies from Matomo just to track your visit. I don’t use them for ads or anything else.
These cookies are purely functional and contain no personal data that would be covered by privacy laws. Learn more about the Matomo cookies and their usage details.
How long I keep analytics data
Tracking cookies are only valid for a maximum 13 months.
Information collected through these cookies is kept for a maximum of 25 months, then is automatically deleted.
Your rights
Wherever you live in the world, on this website you are in control of your own data:
- You can opt out of tracking completely
- You can ask to see what (if any) data I have about your visits
- You can ask me to delete your data
If you want to disable analytics tracking on this website, you can set an opt-out cookie:
Policy Updates
I might update this policy occasionally. I’ll always post the newest version here with the update date at the top.
