A second zip hoodie for my husband
A second zip hoodie for my husband 😎
This is the Ziggy Zipper Hoodie by @wardrobebymepatterns in size 2XL (1 size bigger than the sizing chart suggests for my husband’s measurements, to fit like M/L hoodies he owns). The sizes skew small on this pattern, but they have added one bigger size since I bought it, so maybe more will come! Also it’s sold as a menswear pattern, but it’s a boxy shape that would work for other bodies too (doesn’t slope in at the hips like some menswear does).
I’ve made this pattern before and he wears it really often, so when he asked for another one it went straight on my todo list, but ended up getting pushed down the list for about 3 months 😅 But now that it’s done I think this one will get a lot of wear too, he basically lives in jeans and hoodies.
I made a few changes this time: I lined the hood for a cleaner snugglier finish, used twill tape instead of the oddly-shaped zip facing, used metal eyelets instead of buttonholes, and cut the longer length option (there are 3 lengths). I laid out the pieces out as economically as I could and used a bit more than 150x150cm of this organic/recycled mix fleece with the extra hood pieces – but I’m not convinced the waste is really needed for such a boxy shape (see last photo).
I spent more time on this than I’d planned, because for some reason I turn into a perfectionist monster when I very occasionally make things for other people, and I wasn’t happy with the zip insertion. I still need to go back and fix the corners where the zip/twill tape/ribbing/fabric meet, but I’ll have him wear it a bit first – because I might shorten it slightly (he’s 180cm tall and the 65cm length seems just a tad long).
So it’s not perfect, but done is better than perfect anyway. And now I can think about the next project!
