Tulle and satin bra
Finished another well-fitting underwire bra at lunch today!
This is yet another #mayabra by @afiatelier, with the same modified neckline as the previous two (pattern piece shown in last photo). I wanted to do a straight upper cup with three FOE straps, but I didn’t have a big enough strap ring for three straps. I couldn’t decide between straight or crossed straps, so I ran a poll in my stories – and it was really close! Crossed won by a sliver so I went with that, thanks for your help everyone 😁 Fold-over elastic is super stretchy so I stabilized the neckline with clear elastic, and the straps with tulle selvedge and/or woven muslin fabric scraps (I didn’t have cotton twill tape).
I made this one from tulle and the shiny sides of the duoplex fabric and fold-over elastic (all from @bwear.se like the previous bras). It feels quite glamorous and I love how it turned out!
I’ve now made 5 pretty red underwire bras, and I’m feeling quite proud about that! If other beginner sewists are reading this, know that if I can do it, you definitely can too! Even if the Maya bra was drafted for a round morphology, I think that patterns are just a starting point – and I learned more about my needs by fitting this pattern to my morphology (and also why ready-to-wear never fits me).
