My first wearable tester bra
My first wearable tester bra is finished! 🙌
This is the free #mayabra pattern by @afiatelier, heavily adapted to my teardrop morphology, and made with a pretty red kit from @bwear.se. I mostly followed the construction method from @afairybramother’s amazing Craftsy class “Sewing bras: construction and fit” (I’ve been devouring sewing/knitting/mending classes in my free time these past few weeks 😅).
📐✂️ Given that this pattern was designed for a very round shape, I modified the shape of the lower cup pieces and tried using the upper cup piece from a smaller size. I also made the bridge slightly narrower and shortened the band 1cm. Somehow along the way I forgot to make sure that smaller upper cup edges fit the wire line properly, so my wire ended up being slightly too long once I’d sewn this up – but instead of trimming the wire, I just decided to keep this bra as a soft cup bra.
This tester fits me quite well (the band is amazing), and it kind of worked out like a balconette or demi-cup style. But I’m going to keep working on the cup pieces to get the shape and coverage I want. I think I might even try reworking the pieces from a size up, because the 32C wire line feels slightly too snug.
I’ll be ordering more supplies in the next couple of days for my next attempts, so hopefully soon I can try again! I want to try making a foam cup bra, a mesh/tulle bra, and a lace bra.
