Hand stitched needle book 🪡
My first hand stitched thing: a needle book! 🪡
Ok so I should have made one of these ages ago, but I’m lazy and was only suddenly motivated because my husband landed one of my sewing needles quite deeply in his foot (sorry! 😘). I keep dropping needles and can’t see them on our floor tiles at night, but they now have a place to live in my hand-sewn needle book.
I patched together scraps from various projects to make this: wool from my coat, cotton from my shirt and pocket linings, and scrappy pieces of interfacing. I didn’t have quite enough outer fabric for the back, but I managed to pattern-match the patch!
Inspired by a @checkyourthread episode about sewing garments by hand, I thought this might be a good small no-stress project to practice sewing straight lines. It definitely was, but there’s not a straight line in there 😂 I did surprise myself by enjoying the hand sewing aspect though, and will keep practicing on more small projects to build up to a t-shirt or something! (I want those lines straighter first) I think I’ll hand sew some pattern weights from my scraps (pyramid things filled with rice).
Do you hand sew? Have you made a whole garment by hand? Please send me your tips!! 😁
