Foam cup bra

Still on my “replace all my old-and-embarrassingly-raggedy underwear” streak – after an initial fail, here is my first completed foam cup bra!

This is another #mayabra by @afiatelier, but I integrated a strap attachment area on the upper cup. The cups have a rollover edge and are fully lined, and I finished the top edges with fold-over elastic for the first time. I bought all the pretty materials from @bwear.se 😊

This bra took two attempts to get right – I wasn’t careful when attaching the cups to the band and attaching the elastics – so without realizing, I crushed the foam badly enough for the creases to be very visible under a T-shirt (so far from the smooth silhouette I was going for!). I spent a couple of evenings unpicking everything as carefully as I could, to avoid wastage and see what I could salvage. I managed to reuse the band, elastics, closure and straps in my second attempt! I changed the order of construction to avoid over-handling the cups - I finished the cups completely, finished the band completely, then attached the cups to the band, then finished with the channeling. Any tips on how I should go about this properly next time are definitely welcome! 🙏

My stitching isn’t great on this bra, and all the unpicking drove me nuts - but it was worth it because now I have a cute foam bra and learned a looot of lessons along the way 😆 It looks a bit wrinkled in the photos, but it fills out smoothly when worn!
