Floaty blue culottes

I’m so proud of these #dressedlajupeculotte that I finished today! 🤩 P.S. the top stitching went ok!

This is a pattern from the #dressedlelivre book by @deer_and_doe_patterns, and my very first pair of culottes. It’s a simple pattern with an invisible zip at the back and huge pockets! 😍 All the patterns from that book are wardrobe staples with minimalist silhouettes and I love all the things I’ve made from it.

I made these culottes from blue cotton chambray for spring/summer and the fabric is so swishy and floaty I never want to take them off! I can’t stop moving my legs in weird ways and putting all kinds of random things in these awesome pockets. (Anyone else do that or just me?)

I cut a 34 at the waist and graded to a 40 at the hips, and it’s perfect for me – I would never find anything this perfectly fitting in RTW! I did struggle with the invisible zipper - it was my first time inserting a zip, and I had to unpick after a misaligned attempt. It’s not really invisible though, so any tips on how to do that properly are most welcome 🙏 Also the butt darts are a bit pointy, even though I sewed them curved - maybe they’re too long for me?

How did I not know before that I needed culottes? It’s like pants and skirt made a baby… I’ve been living my life without even realizing what I was missing out on 🙀

Shown with a glimpse of a mock-neck top from the same book, and my me-made espadrille sandals. ☺️
