Zero waste maxi skirt

I finally have another zero waste maxi skirt that will fit me despite fluctuations 🌞

This is the #diysophieskirt from @_diydaisy’s book “Sew it yourself”, with a button-down hack. The book uses body measurements for simple draw-to-measure patterns, and they’re very hackable!

The book doesn’t contain any cutting layouts because it’s all drafted-to-measure, but I laid mine out in a zero waste way (last photo). I thought I’d have a tiny bit leftover after cutting the waistband – but I just used one top-to-bottom strip for a slightly shorter waistband, and made darts at the top of the skirt to fit. And I still have about 30cm ease at the hips!

I made rectangular inseam pockets, but maybe later I’ll cut them out and resew them as patch pockets like my previous zw maxi skirt.

I made this skirt in a plain white linen using cotton thread, then mordanted it with alum and dyed it a deep sunny yellow with onion skins! I dyed more linen and a piece of canvas a lighter yellow with the leftover dye too, and am thinking of overdying one of those with indigo to make green. Natural dyes are so magic ✨
