I made jeans!! (shorts)

Friends, I made jeans!! 😱

These are the #mndawn jeans by @megannielsenpatterns, in view 4 (shorts). This pattern comes in two overlapping size ranges, going from 61cm waist/86cm hips until 122cm waist/147cm hip.

This was my first real pair of jeans, and I made the shorts version as a wearable toile, in heavy rigid denim and fun wax pocket lining (because fun pockets are 💯 percent better). I expected some fitting troubles with my proportions, and ended up baste fitting a size 4 waistband and grading out to a size 12 hip. The crotch gave me some issues, and I attempted a few small fixes to avoid drawing attention to that area.

The instructions are good, and are split into chunks, which helped me put these together over a few weeknights. I did each step quite slowly, being careful to try to make something I’ll love wearing. The photo blog posts were very helpful for me, to compare my understanding.

I’ve never owned a pair of rigid jeans before, or jeans with a button fly - so I haven’t finished the inseam and front crotch seam, because I’d like to wear them for a few days to see if I need to alter those areas a bit for comfort. I haven’t bothered hemming them yet either, as you can tell from the photos lol.

I put them on for a test fit and now I don’t want to take them off, I feel quite fabulous in them 😆 No gaping in the back, and no squeezing in the thighs/hips! ✨

Anyone else who’s dreaming of sewing jeans: if I can do it, so can you 😄 (@bibbity_bobbity_buttons you were right lol)
