DIY espadrille sneakers
Tonight I finished my espadrille sneakers, just in time for the summer weather that’s hit us 😎
When I have to wear shoes I usually wear sneakers or sandals. I’ve been thinking about some summer shoes since I made my first pair of sneakers in January, but it took a while to find the perfect fabric – I really wanted to make them from some fun wax print! This is the same fabric I used for my tessellated shirt, I bought it at an outdoor market.
I adapted the sneakerkit pattern to fit these espadrille soles (just basic Prym soles for this attempt). I could probably improve it a bit more for espadrilles but they’re good enough for a first attempt! I cut up an old toile for the lining, and put eyelets in the holes for the laces.
These shoes are super comfy and lightweight – I didn’t bother interfacing them because I wanted the softness and breathability of the cotton. I have no idea how long these will last, but with such simple construction they should be easy enough to mend when the time comes!
If you’ve never made shoes before, espadrilles are easy to make and comfortable to wear 😍
