Zero waste project 10: pinafore dress

Zero waste* project n°10: the #smithpinafore dungaree dress!

@lizhaywood3754 calls this a “low waste” pattern, but the rectangular fabric remnants are totally usable for another project (her zero waste backpack maybe?) and will not be waste to me. The pattern is sized for a 87-142cm/34”-55” bust and 69-124cm/27-48” waist, but also includes information for making it bigger (I used that info to make it smaller at the bust). It can be cut any length.

I made this from less than 1 meter of gorgeous organic cotton denim by @1083borneinfrance, woven and dyed in France. (The fur in the photos is normal, I live with a dog 😅) The base pattern would have been midi length on me, so I cut it shorter – but measuring myself without a mirror wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had 😆 (it’s 3-4cm shorter than I’d planned, but it’s cute and wearable so let’s just go with it).

This fabric was originally intended for my first pair of jean shorts, but that project will wait. It was my first time working with rigid denim, and the straight lines of this pattern were great practice for top stitching! I really love the hidden pockets at the waist closure (I used the same cotton sateen as my jacket lining). I didn’t have buckles so I used jeans buttons on the straps instead.

I love that this dress is perfect for all seasons - in winter I’ll wear it with leggings and a hand knitted sweater, a long sleeved top in spring/autumn, and a T-shirt in summer.

I think this dress will last me a few years! Totally recommend this pattern 😎

#memademay: wearing this dress with my me-made #sneakerkit shoes and an old favorite RTW top.

@emmacreacouture @bonsplanscouture encore une participation à votre super défi #moncouponde1m ! Peut-être mon défi préféré depuis que j’en relève ! 🤩
