Louisiana Sweater for my mum

Here it is: the final #louisianasweater for my mum!

I’m really pleased with how this turned out, it’s definitely worth going through the blocking process after knitting – the wool is so much softer and brighter.

This pattern is beginner-friendly (1/5 difficulty) and knits up really quickly with two strands of worsted weight wool on chunky needles. I think it took about 4 or 5 days of non-intensive knitting plus a couple of days to dry after blocking. I made this with #dropsair wool in green moss, on 8mm and 10mm needles (not quite to gauge but the pattern has enough ease to compensate). I used about 8 balls of wool, and have one leftover – I’ll send it along with the sweater for eventual mending operations (mama if you’re reading this, this gift comes with a mending guarantee 😁 When it wears out or gets holes, I can either fix it for you or teach you to!)

It took me a couple of rounds to understand how the raglan shaping worked, so it’s a bit messy towards the top. I also must have cast on the underarm stitches too loosely at the second sleeve, because it took me 4 attempts (ripping out 3 rows each time) to pick up the sleeve stitches without creating holes in the corners – but I managed in the end, and most of the little mistakes were smoothed out with blocking.

It’s all folded and packed in tissue paper now for postal delivery to the other side of the world, but I will definitely be making one of these for myself in autumn. I never thought that knitting outside in the sun would be so relaxing, making winter clothes in warm weather seems kind of unintuitive – but it was great and this will now be my go-to gift pattern, because it’s so quick to make!
